Today, be sure to read all the way down to the video. It’s my gift to you!
At the International Symposium for Performance Science, 2007, a paper was presented proving the psychological benefits of choral singing. The findings support 6 “generative mechanisms” of singing that enhance well being of mind and body.
~ Positive Effect
~ Focused Attention
~ Deep Breathing
~ Social Support
~ Cognitive Stimulation
~ Regular Commitment
University of Gothenberg, Swedenhas found that Singing and Yoga have a lot in common. “Song is a form of regular, controlled breathing, since breathing out occurs on the song phrases and inhaling takes place between these,” says Dr. Bjorn Vickhoff, who led the study. “It gives you pretty much the same effect as yoga breathing. It helps you relax and there are indications that it does provide a heart benefit.” The study also found that breathing becomes synchronized and so do the heartbeats of choral group members. This brings about a peace-filled, calming effect.
Another outcome of singing is the release of my favorite neurochemical, oxytocin. Oxytocin is our bonding and trust chemical (released in bucketfuls after orgasm). The desire neurochemical, dopamine, is released when listening to music that effects you emotionally. So, couldn’t dopamine be released while singing and listening at the same time, if you are effected emotionally (i.e. brought to tears or laughing with mirth and joy, etc…)?
As far as I can tell, there are no down sides to corporate singing!
What if you can’t carry a tune in a bucket? ‘Make a joyful noise unto the Lord,’ doesn’t say, ‘make a harmonically perfect joyful noise.’ But, if your lack of tonality bothers you, sing softly, but still breath deeply and let it out!
Your Sex Drive Transformation tip of the week is for you and your husband to GO CHRISTMAS CAROLING with your church family regularly this season.
What better way to relax mind and body and promote a spirit-filled heart? Sing to enhance your connection with your fellow believers, your husband and your Savior.
Then, maybe later, you’ll be singing in the bedroom. 😉
Scripture Meditation
Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.Know ye that the Lord, he is God: It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise:Be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Positive Affirmation (action verb: sing)
I sing with the knowledge that sexual intimacy with my husband is God ordained. I sing with joy that sexual intimacy is an emotional and spiritual experience and creates a bond like no other with my husband. One more thing….
