Have any of you followed the blogosphere purity culture extremism debate?
In these debates, emotional fallout from enduring extreme behavior modification programs regarding virginity is discussed. Let me emphasize, extreme.
I wholeheartedly believe and endorse God’s plan for sexual intimacy. Lovemaking was created for the Marriage Bed. Marital sexual intimacy is sacred. But, how do we teach our kids to remain untainted before marriage in this society?
I’ve maintained all along that effective abstinence education is one of lovingly taught self-control, not fear/shame tactics.
How do we do this?
In my hunt for resources, a treasure was discovered in, “A Chicken’s Guide to Talking Turkey with Your Kids about Sex,” by Dr. Kevin Leman and Kathy Flores Bell (Zondervan, 2009).
“Parents imagine their kids to be nonsexual until their wedding night. The truth of the matter is we’re sexual from day one. What are you going to communicate to your kids about this, knowing that they are sexual creatures today?” asks the introduction of this book.
I want to share this with you!!

I’ve been wanting to read this book for…like forever. I usually love Kevin Leman’s stuff. I think his point is valid. I’m heading over to read your review!
Now’s the time to read it and give it to all your friends!!! His emphasis is on building a home that encourages the asking and helps the parents be comfortable with the asking. He gives the parents such great tools regarding the answers…..and there’s so much more.
