A rep for Moody Publishers reached out and asked me to review Juli Slattery’s latest book, “25 Questions you’re Afraid to ask about Love, Sex, and Intimacy.” I finished reading it a few days ago on our drive to Florida.
Dr. Juli Slattery is a clinical psychologist. She was co-host of Focus on the Family’s daily broadcast from 2010-2012. She resigned to co-found Authentic Intimacy with Linda Dillow. (One of the first Christian intimacy books I read was by Linda Dillow.) Authentic Intimacy is a women’s media ministry focusing on intimacy in marriage & intimacy with Christ. She is the author of several other books that minister to marriages and women.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learned and enjoyed reading, “25 Questions You’re Afraid to Ask about Love, Sex, and Intimacy.” Not all books combine the two. Sometimes, it’s a matter of pure determination to get through a book with lots of wisdom, not the case here.
Juli uses fresh language, stories, and analogies to constantly point back to the spiritual essence of sexuality and sexual intimacy. Believe me, after 15 years of reading about Christian sexual intimacy, I relish fresh and unique ways of explaining God’s design of his oldest pleasure.
“Sexual choices always have spiritual consequences,” is the foundational statement of this book.
Understanding the spiritual nature of sexuality was a pivotal point in my journey toward reclaiming my lost libido. It’s crucial for low-libido gals to grasp this key. God gives the nod to married sex. Knowing this gives a Christian woman with low sexual-desire permission to pursue her sexuality.
Even though 25 Questions was written for a female audience, I would recommend it to anyone who is called to talk about God’s design of sex. It covers relevant current topics; singleness, homosexuality, masturbation, infidelity, high drive wives; just to name a few.
Juli seamlessly blends theology with practical application. It’s obvious God hand-molded this brilliant, warm-hearted woman to share his message about the power and beauty of sexuality and sexual intimacy.

Join me at Authentic Intimacy’s Conference in Port St. Lucie Florida, Saturday, January 30.
Unlike when we first got married, I don’t always blab everything in my mind to my husband, Dave. However, my enthusiasm for Juli’s book overflowed and I gave him a synopsis. He was listening. Later that day on the radio, he heard there was a Slattery conference reasonably close to his new office in Florida.
If you are in the sunny south Florida area, please consider joining me for the one-day event. Here’s the Authentic Intimacy conference website. If you do end up going, make sure you let me know!!
